So it’s the beginning of June already (how did that happen!) the sun is trying to break through those clouds and the those summer holidays are coming closer! But is your business ready for the school holidays or even that break in the sun?
For most of us with children the summer holidays are a time when we have to really juggle the demands of our business and looking after our children. Even if you don’t have children, simply taking that 2 week break and actually stepping away from your business can feel like a near on impossible prospect. So it’s important to get our businesses into shape now so that we can really enjoy our break and take the time out that we need.
Here are a few tips on how to do just that:
- Get organised. Streamlining your processes and making sure you’re running efficiently will save you so much time and energy. Knowing you’ve left your business in an organised state will also help you relax while you’re away.
- Prioritise. Make sure you know what your top 3 priorities are during those summer months and focus on those. Trying to do the same amount of work as you do during school time will demoralise you and make you stressed and anxious. Choose what really must be done and focus on those. It will make you much more productive and give you a real sense of achievement.
- Prepare. Schedule your time so that you know when you can work and when you’re having quality family time. It will stop you feeling guilty and focus your mind on doing what you need to. If you’re going away, let your customers and clients know you’ll be unavailable during that time. Get up to date with invoices and other administration so you don’t have to come back to a backlog of paperwork.
- Outsource. If you are going away then it will really help you relax if you know someone else is dealing with any issues that may arise while you’re away. Even if it’s just someone to monitor your emails, you’ll be more likely to relax and stay away from your phone if you know someone else is keeping things running.
Most of us wait all year for the summer months when we can take some time out and maybe go away with our families. And it is so important to our health and well-being to re-charge our batteries and relax for a while. But sometimes, when we run our own businesses, this can seem impossible. So it’s vital that we think ahead and do what we can to make our businesses beach ready.
