Why multi-tasking kills your productivity

Have you ever tried to do 3 things at once?

I can just about cook dinner and have a conversation on the phone but if one of my children starts talking to me I have to stop doing one of the other things. That’s because I just can’t concentrate on them all at the same time. But that’s not just me! The human brain is actually incapable of concentrating on more than two things at a time (and one of those things has to be fairly basic!). We just don’t have the mental capacity to attend to multiple things. Not if we want to do them properly anyway.

So you really need to focus on one thing if you want to achieve the most in the time you have.

Now that’s not easy when you’re trying to juggle your home and your children and a thousand other commitments. But in your business, focusing on one thing is essential if you want to achieve your goals. Trying to do too much at one time will divide your attention and therefore your focus. And if you halve your focus you’ll also halve the standard that you work at.

That’s why getting organised and planning your time is so important. Knowing what your priorities are and what you’re going to do each day makes you more effective and productive. So focus on one task at a time and really achieve the best results.

Feeling that your life is effortless comes from the satisfaction of knowing that you have achieved what you set out to do. So stop trying to do too much at once; organise your time; set your goals for the day; focus on them and get them done – one at a time!
