Personally I love the summer holidays. It’s a chance to spend some time with the children ideally outside (weather permitting!). It’s great to watch them relax and de-stress after the last few tiring weeks at school.
However, as a business owner too I know that the holidays are also when I really need to plan my time so that I can keep those plates spinning and continue to run my business and be there for the children too.
Even those of us without children can find the next month or so difficult as business slows down because so many of clients are now child-focused!
But no matter how much you plan and schedule sometimes it just isn’t possible to fit in everything on your normal to-do list. In this case it’s a great idea to focus on the things you usually put to the side ‘to do later’. Here are just a few productive things you can do to keep on top of things during the summer months:
- Get a head start on your finances now. Just 20 minutes or so a day logging your mileage or collecting and filing receipts will save you from that mad rush in January when your tax return is due. (If you can do the whole thing now even better!)
- Enter your client details a few at a time into your system.
- Go through your inbox and file or delete those emails! Just 10 a day will make you more organised and your inbox feel less daunting.
- Review your business and your six month goals and re-evaluate for the next 5 months.
These are just a few things you can do to keep yourself productive during August.
It’s a perfect time to get yourself organised and evaluating where you are and where you want to be at the end of the year. And if you can go into September feeling ready for whatever your business throws at you then that’s even better!
